More about this digital file
Description
Richelieu embroidery is a beautiful form of whitework and is named after Cardinal Richelieu, a 17th century French statesman and clergyman.
Resembling lace, motifs are edged with stitching and the background is cut away with sections held together with detached, stitched bars.
Worked with snowy white stranded cotton onto pristine white linen, this lovely butterfly is an ideal introduction to this technique.
