Description
The lotus flower holds special significance in Chinese culture with important symbolism in religion and daily life. It indicates purity, continuous harmony, renewal and new beginnings.
While the plant itself grows in muddy water, the beautiful buds rise high above the murkiness below and blooms in pure splendour, the latter of which has been captured beautifully in this design by Margaret Lee, made even more remarkable by its lifelike reproduction in stitch thanks to the use of Random Stitch Embroidery.
This design has been based on a photograph from Mauritius Images, used under license.
SPECIAL NOTE | Instructions for this project are included in the book ‘The Art of Chinese Embroidery 2 | Intermediate Level’, however some prior knowledge is assumed based on techniques presented in ‘The Art of Chinese Embroidery 1 | Foundation Level’, therefore depending on your familiarity with Chinese Embroidery, both books may be required for reference.
