Description

The stunning, shaded pink breast of the rose robin (Petroica rosea) is perfectly echoed in the wonderfully cup-shaped flowers of the magnificent saucer magnolia (Magnolia x soulangeana).

Stitched with almost fifty shades of stranded cotton onto fine white linen, the dainty grey and pink male bird is endemic to eastern and south-eastern Australia and rests on a lichen-covered, magnolia branch.

The open tepals of one flower and tightly closed bud of another are worked with numerous shades of wine, plum, fuchsia, mauve and candy pink thread.
