Description
Grown over the centuries for oil and seed, a field of sunflowers on a sunny day is a spectacular sight with the bold yellow petals and rich brown centres rising above a sea of lush green leaves.
Recreated here with a combination of stumpwork and surface embroidery, the picot petals and needlelace leaves are stitched with lustrous cotton perlé thread.
Fabric slips, covered in rings of French knots form the flower centres and are surrounded by florets worked in Ghiordes knots.
Background details are worked in stranded cotton to complete this delightful scene.
