Description

The embroidery of Hungary is famous for its vitality and exuberant use of colour.

Although diverse in its forms, one of the most loved styles of stitching comes from Kalocsa, a city on the Great Plain of Hungary.

Named for its birthplace, Kalocsa embroidery is characterised by the most vibrantly coloured flowers set on a background of lacy cutwork.

This beautiful doily captures this magic with its bouquet of vivid flowers; pansy, daffodil, daisy, cornflower, forget-me-not, bleeding heart, lilium and echinacea, contrasting wonderfully with the pristine whiteness of the delicate background and border.
