Four Corners

Crewelwork is loved for its stylised imagery and dramatic colour palette and this magnificent square footstool is a perfect example of both.

Rich shades of China blue, honeysuckle yellow, mauve and wine red have been used to work a single motif into each corner; a golden sunflower, a bunch of luscious grapes, a rotund plum and an elegant tulip.

Coral berries, tipped with black, are scattered amongst shaded leaves, forming a cross of gently arching stems. Worked with crewel wool onto linen twill, this superb design would be equally at home on a cushion or hanging on a wall.
