Description

The muted shades of violet and blue found in this tantalizing flower give little indication of the vibrant golden yellow spice that originates from its centre.

The saffron crocus is usually grown for the richly coloured stigmas that impart both flavour and colour but this specimen is stitched using a variety of silk, cotton and wool threads on a background of silk dupion.

Trapunto quilting, surface embroidery and needlelace stitches have been utilised to recreate Redouté’s superb botanical watercolour of this charming flower.
