Description
The tufted coquette (lophornus ornatus), is a tiny, brightly coloured hummingbird native to South America.
Measuring around only 7cm (2 ¾") in length, it can easily be mistaken for a large bee when gathering nectar from flowers.
Its dazzlingly hued plumage, stunning crested head and striking, spotted collar tufts are perfectly captured in this superb study, worked with stranded cotton and silk filament threads onto cotton percale.
