Description
The spectacular popularity of crewel embroidery reached its zenith in the 17th and 18th centuries when lavish furnishings were stitched by professional embroiderers to ornament the bed.
Curtains, valances, a head cloth, pillows and a bed cover were richly decorated with stylised flowers, rolling hillocks and all manner of animals, birds and insects.
This dainty wall pocket echoes the designs and colours that were so popular at this time. Traditionally used to hold small household items, the hanging pocket makes a perfect and pretty way to keep things safe in the 21st century.
