Painting with Needles | Trish Burr Kits

19th July 2024

When trying to explain a new concept to someone, we often reach for a comparison with something else similar to help bring familiarity.

If you are an admirer of the fabulous designs by South African artisan Trish Burr, you may be familiar with her term ‘needlepainting’.

Also referred to as threadpainting, both names use this wonderful visual juxtaposition of associating paint with embroidery to help explain the concept.

Now there are times when we use actual paint to create a background that is then embellished with stitching, but in the instance of needlepainting or threadpainting, it simply refers to this beautiful notion of using your needle as a brush and applying threads in the same way you would use paint.

The results achieved when applying this technique to full effect are stunning, especially in the hands of a highly accomplished designer like Trish Burr.

So, if you’re interested in checking out some projects by Trish that feature this spectacular technique, use the link below. And for your convenience, each project is also available to purchase in kit form.
