World Embroidery Day 2024
30TH AUGUST 2024 - ASU #442
The 30th of July is an opportunity for all of us in the needlework community to come together and celebrate our love for embroidery. From traditional tapestries to modern stitching, World Embroidery Day is all about sharing our artistic expressions.
This year we received some great stories from fellow participants. Stephanie from the Examplary Needle Guild in Orchard Park, NY, USA, told us that for the entire month of July they decorated their display window with stitching.
On the big day itself, they had an all-day stitching sitting at the library!
‘I set up a schedule, so we had stitchers coming and going all day long. Each worked on their own project so there were many types of embroidery that could be observed. The librarian put together a display of embroidery books they owned to encourage people to borrow them.
It was a wonderful day, and we talked to many people who were not only interested in the beauty of our work but also interested in joining our guild.
We had brochures available with information about the guild to distribute for those interested in joining us. One of our members even brought some Aida cloth, a simple design, floss, and needles for anyone who wanted to give cross-stitch a try.’
We also heard from Yoichi who saw our reminder about World Embroidery Day and wanted to share her stitching story!
‘I have an embroidery business in Japan that has been running for 87 years. My grandfather started this company and I am third generation.’
The policy and aim of our company is - let us create a bright and happy world with embroidery.
So, for our contribution, we are trying to post bright and happy topics on our Instagram accounts adding #worldembroideryday.’
Another successful year of World Embroidery Day! We look forward to seeing what our wonderful community of stitchers get up to next year.
