What Are You Stitching?

Inese Christman
‘My Off the Hook by Susan O’Connor took over a month of daily 2-hour stitching sessions while my husband kept our demanding kitty at bay. I stitched these paperweights as gifts for my brother and sister-in-law.’
‘I learned a lot along the way. I even stitched a practice one with threads, etc. from my stash. I am usually a sampler stitcher and do some wool embroidery, but these were so much fun to stitch and challenged me.’
Many thoughtful hours went into your beautiful, stitched gift, Inese! You even challenged yourself with techniques not normally in your wheelhouse, and you have certainly excelled. We’re so glad you enjoyed stitching them, they look absolutely fabulous.
Angela Anderson
‘Last year I embroidered a whitework piece using pulled and drawn techniques as well as padded satin and of course long lines of trailing. It was part of my local embroidery group where we had a Greek theme and we could create whatever we wanted, so I chose a Pegasus.’
‘Pegasus, the majestic Ancient Greek mythical winged white horse. He created sacred springs of water wherever his hooves hit the ground. Zeus gave him a place in the stars and to this day you can see his constellation of stars in the night sky.’
‘It seems that whitework is pulling me in because now I am starting to stitch a whitework owl from my own design.’
We’re so glad that whitework stitches came to call, Angela, your Pegasus is breathtaking. We love the sky background that allows the clouds to peak through the different stitches in the wings of the Pegasus. Divine.
Sharon Evans
‘This is my original work using a variety of threads, fabrics and many stitches to create a piece that addresses the subject of preserving our world through retaining the humble unassuming weeds/field flowers.’
‘I was fortunate to win a prize at our National Embroidery exhibition.’
We love the effect you have created with the stumpwork elements reaching out of the frame, Sharon. You certainly have used a range of threads and techniques to complete your very worthy prize-winning piece. Thank you for sharing!
Have you stitched a gift for a loved one? Have you stitched a whitework project? Or stitched an original piece?
