What Are You Stitching?

‘Here is my finished Box of Delights, which is Helen M. Stevens’ beautiful project.’
‘Stitched with Pipers Silks from your book The Design Collective – Christmas. A delight to stitch.’
Jackie, you have made the Pipers Silks sing in your recreation of Box of Delights! We’re pretty sure that every time you take a moment to admire this beautiful piece you have stitched, it will also make your heart sing, so well done.

‘I wanted to share a couple of my recently completed works with you since you are the inspiration behind them! Through your magazine and newsletters, I’ve gotten to see so much amazing Australian flora and fauna depicted in embroidery and it’s incredible.
I love seeing what the artists you highlight have done!
Not being from Australia though, it got me wondering why it is that I don’t see a lot of California natives in stitch. Well, if you can’t find what you want, maybe you can make it!’
‘So, for the year of 2023 I picked a California native to embroider each month. I chose plants that had Californica in their scientific name, and I chose a month in which they bloomed (although for a couple of them that’s a bit of a stretch!). I completed the embroidery in December of 2023 but didn’t make it into a banner until recently.’
‘The other project is a California scrub jay. They are gorgeous birds with the most vibrant blue and I love seeing them! They are corvids and as such have something of a mixed reputation, but I love them! Once the embroidery was completed, I made the box using a kit from a delightful woman in Michigan- Claudia Squio of Colorway Arts.’
‘Anyway, I’m pleased as punch with how they turned out and feel I owe it all to you lovely folks for being consummate purveyors of embroidery, inspiration, and support!’
Tersea, we love your ‘if you can’t see it, make it’ attitude! Your execution of the two projects is beautiful, and all the more special because their subjects are native to you. Both of the bright and cheerful pieces will bring you many years of joy, we’re sure! Also, thank you for your kind words – it’s thrilling and humbling to hear that we have played a small role in your stitching journey and we look forward to seeing where your needle and thread takes you next…

‘I would love to share a recent embroidery project I completed.
Last year I joined a Discord group for people who love reading. One of the things this group does is a book annotation chain. Someone chooses a book, reads and annotates it, then sends it to the next person and so on until a fully annotated version comes back to the owner.’
‘When my turn came around, I chose the book Belladonna by Adalyn Grace, a gothic fantasy romance that I really love. I decided to make everyone involved in the chain little embroidered bookmarks inspired by the Atropa belladonna plant.’
‘They turned out really lovely, and it makes me so happy that everyone in the chain enjoyed them and has a little piece of my artwork!’
This is such a thoughtful idea, Maddie! They are beautifully designed and the mini hoops make such wonderful bookmarks. We’re sure it will be hard for anyone in the group to forget your book choice with such lovely place holders to use.
Do you enjoy stitching with Pipers Silks? Have you stitched a bookmark? Or maybe a gift for a book group?
Whatever you are stitching, we’d love to see it! Email photos of what you’ve created with needle and thread along with a few details about your stitching journey to news@inspirationsstudios.com
