What Are You Stitching?
27TH OCTOBER 2023 - ASU #402
We love checking our emails to find a stitched surprise waiting for us. We are so grateful to everyone who generously sends in their beautiful work for us to share and inspire the entire needlework community. In this week’s What Are You Stitching?, we bring you two projects that brightly lit up our screens and a wonderful design that was sent in by a lovely friend.
Patty Park
‘It occurred to me to check for some photos of my past work to send in. Here is my Berry Delight from Inspirations magazine issue #37.’
‘I love, love, love needlework and after a Stitches and Stately Home tour, I came home so inspired and stitched this second piece for my friend.’
‘So much of Inspirations magazine is eye candy as I’ll never be able to complete all my current projects, but it gives me so much pleasure.’
Thank you for sending in your stunning stitching, Patty! We love the extra beads you have added to your Berry Delight and the colours you have chosen for your second piece are beautifully bright and marry together superbly. Both are a credit to the range of techniques you can stitch beautifully.
Robyne Undy
‘I saw a picture of this little bird, a ‘Silver Eared Mesia’, and thought it was so pretty I’d set myself a challenge to embroider it one day. The challenge sat for a long time before it came to fruition. Having finished a cross stitch project, that took much longer than I expected, I wanted to do something different.’
‘I have done stumpwork kits before and decided I could do this by myself. I set out to draw up the bird and started by padding the body, head and olives before starting the stitching.
I used what threads I had, so I mixed different coloured stitches as I went, to get the colours and shades I wanted. The wing was worked over wire, separately, and attached later.’
You have certainly done this pretty little bird justice, Robyne! A wonderful study you have chosen to stitch and an excellent challenge to set yourself.
The shading you have achieved with different coloured thread is wonderful and you should be very proud of your beautifully designed and stitched piece.
Molly Macinante
We received a wonderful email from Shelia Bowdich, who wanted to share the work of a fellow member of the Australian Lace Guild. ‘Many of our members dabble in all sorts of crafts. Molly in embroidery.’
‘She is very humble in her abilities but promised to show me her Limonera Pear, from A Passion for Needlework | Blakiston Creamery when she had finished. I asked if I might send you a photo, it is quite exquisite.’
You’re certainly right, Shelia, Molly’s Limonera Pear is excellent. She has accomplished a range of stitches and a challenging construction beautifully. An accomplishment we’re sure Molly is proud of and we would love to see what she stitches next!
Have you got a humble friend whose stitching you think should be sent in to us? Do you have past projects stored away that you could share? Perhaps a project that saw your first attempt at a new technique?
Whatever you are stitching, we’d love to see it! Email photos of what you’ve created with needle and thread along with a few details about your stitching journey to news@inspirationsstudios.com
