What Are You Stitching?

13TH OCTOBER 2023 - ASU #400

It’s almost the end of this week’s ‘all things celebration’ edition of All Stitched Up! so we thought we would finish by sharing some of the Inspirations projects, stitched by our community, that we have been publishing for… (how long was it again?) 30 years!

Liz Shanks

‘Here are photos of my Dream a Little Dream by Taetia McEwen from Inspirations issue 114. I needed a framed piece for my beautiful little granddaughter Maggie May’s first birthday and name giving, so I thought this design was perfect.’

‘I did need to change a few things and added different stitches and colours. I did think my spider looked a bit terrifying (I am an arachnophobe) so I gave her tiny dancing shoes… now I can look at her. Thanks for the inspiration.’

Liz, once again you have sent us an immaculately stitched labour of love. It was a great idea to stitch this design as a framed piece and make it your own with personal touches, especially the tiny dancing spider shoes! We’re sure your granddaughter will get many years of enjoyment from your stitches.

Josi Murnaghan

‘I thought you might like to see some of my goldwork inspired by your amazing designers, with the exception of the elephant and bee, which I designed myself.’

‘I started stitching when I was 19 (I’m now 59) with cross stitch and spent a few years working through the lovely Mirabilia designs (rather obsessively!).’

‘I came across Inspirations magazine many years ago and after making my first blanket and enjoying the freedom that stitching affords so much, I haven’t looked back.’

‘I’m not a natural designer and therefore am so very grateful to all the wonderful designers out there who provide so much inspiration and opportunity to continually challenge me to try new techniques.

Wow, Josi, what an incredible collection of projects! Your goldwork pieces are beautiful and rich with detail, and no doubt are a wonderful reminder of your talent on display. We’re so glad to hear your stitching has been fuelled for many years by the projects from our publications and we look forward to seeing more of your stitching in the near future!

Megan McNab

‘I wanted to share with you my first ever Inspirations project, Gifts from the Sea by Elisabetta Sforza. I made it into a picture, rather than a bag. It is my first raised embroidery project and with help from my local embroidery group I’m very pleased with the result.’

‘We moved from the city to the coast about two years ago and this piece is part of my sea change celebration. Thanks for the lovely opportunity to learn new skills.’

We’re so glad to have provided you with the design for your amazing stitches, Megan! What a lovely way to commemorate your move. We’re sure Elisabetta will love seeing the design finished in a frame.

Have you recently finished a project from an Inspirations publication? Maybe as a gift or to celebrate a special occasion?

Whatever you are stitching, we’d love to see it! Email photos of what you’ve created with needle and thread along with a few details about your stitching journey to news@inspirationsstudios.com
