What Are You Stitching?

25TH OCTOBER 2024 - ASU #450

Karen Fraser

‘I have been an avid follower of Inspirations and Trish Burr for many years and was fortunate enough to attend one of Trish’s classes at Beating Around the Bush.’

‘I have been busy with her miniatures and completed 4 out of 9.’

23.JPG

‘I have completed at least 40 of her projects. She is an inspiration. Thank you to Trish and Inspirations for all that you do to keep this artistry going.’

40 projects is quite the portfolio, Karen! The subjects are adorable (we can see why you love them) and your stitching sublime. We hope to continue to provide you with stitching joy for many years to come…

Anne Rowlands

‘The St. John's Guild of Embroiderers (from St. John's Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) decided a few years ago to create a collection of stitch samples, all using the same motif as a starting point.’

24.jpg

‘The original idea came from the Rose Binders that belong to EAC/ACB, but being a part of the country with a long history in fisheries and whose whole economy was based on cod at one point, the cod was chosen as our motif.’

25.jpg

‘Almost every one of the 41 cod featured a different technique or stitch.’

26.jpg

‘They are hanging in the entrance to the museum at the Colony of Avalon, where visitors gather before they go on the tour of the archaeology site of Lord Baltimore's first 'plantation' in North America, at Ferryland NL.

The cod will be there until October this year and will probably keep on moving to other venues.’

Wow, Anne, this is a momentous task your guild has taken on and completed to such a high standard. We love that each fish features a different technique, making them all so unique and representative of the many ways our passion for needlework can be employed. It is wonderful to hear that your hard work will be enjoyed by so many people. Well done to you all!

Paula Wilson

‘This is a picture of my Best Friends from Inspirations issue 43, designed by Helen Hardman. Although one of my kitties has run off to get treats.

I first saw this project several years ago and immediately planned to stitch it. Time got in the way and a few years went by until about a year ago, I decided to just do it.’

‘I was able to purchase nice qualities of wool, although with the state of fabric stores these days, it was a challenge especially for the white wool. Thankfully there is the internet.

After a bit of trial and error I was able to get everything together and began stitching. It was a fun project and challenging, as I had never stitched on wool.

The finished quilt hangs in my office now and when there is the need for it by a great grandchild, it will be sent to a new home. I hope you like the result. BTW, I just started stitching Flowers for Elizabeth.’

We’re so glad Paula that you were able to source the materials so we could marvel in your fabulous work. You’ve even made it your own with you design choice, which we love to see. Your blanket is beautiful. We look forward to seeing your version of Flowers for Elizabeth once its stitched…

Have you stitched a project by your favourite designer? Has your group stitched a project together? Or have you stitched a blanket with a design you have admired for many years?

Whatever you are stitching, we’d love to see it! Email photos of what you’ve created with needle and thread along with a few details about your stitching journey to news@inspirationsstudios.com
