The Legacy of A Fine Tradition
2ND AUGUST 2024 - ASU #438
In January this year we lost a dear member of the Inspirations family and one of our generations most remarkable needlework artisans, Margaret Light.
Thankfully her legacy has in part been preserved through the numerous projects that have been published and Margaret’s two books, A Fine Tradition and A Fine Tradition 2.
If you are not familiar with Margaret’s work, she was most famous for her intricate crewel work.
Constantly experimenting with different colours and stitches, all her projects were technically brilliant, unfailingly striking in design and captivating to behold.
Her technical brilliance came from the fact that Margaret would never simply settle on one or two types of stitches. She gained so much pleasure from including different stitches in her designs, allowing the stitcher to experiment and learn from every one of her projects.
It was often said that a Margaret Light project was so packed with so many little details, one could spend ages exploring them with your eyes, delighting at the minute intricacies as much as the overall effect.
If you have a Margaret Light project on your ‘To Stitch List’ use the links below to see if we have any of her kits still in stock, as they are unlikely to be re-kitted in the future.
For those of you who are yet to add a project or two by Margaret to your list, check out one of her books or one of the many designs we’ve published, you’re sure to find something that will bring you pure stitching joy.
