Reticella Rose by Di Kirchner
22ND NOVEMBER 2024 - ASU #454
Inspirations magazine issue #124 has been referred to as an embarrassment of riches.
There is so much to enjoy, so many projects to provide inspiration and wonder, the title for #124 could easily have been the ‘which project do I stitch first?’ issue.
Among the riches lies what some may deem the crowning jewel.
Reticella Rose by Di Kirchner ticks all the boxes for anyone craving traditional, classic embroidery.
This trio of linen needlework accessories has been masterfully created by Di using the technique Reticella or point coupé.
This beautiful style of needlelace dates back to the 15th century, a time when ornate clothing and fine lace were important symbols of wealth and status.
Originally a form of cutwork where threads were removed from linen fabric to create a grid over which the pattern was stitched, it developed into needlelace where the grids were formed only with thread, enabling lace of incredible fineness and delicacy to be worked.
Di has gifted us a matching needlebook, pincushion and scissor fob, all utilising the same singular motif, albeit across three different scales, embellished with eyelets and satin stitch.
These are truly elegant needlework accessories that embody and convey everything you’d expect from an Italian regional technique.
Tradition, charm and beauty. Nothing more, nothing less.
The very essence of what classic embroidery is all about…
