Festive Table by Fumie Suzuki
1ST NOVEMBER 2024 - ASU #452
There are some things in life that change for good reason. Then there are things that change, and upon reflection, you realise that perhaps it was better the old way.
For the most part, modern-day life has done away with fancy table runners and fabric placemats. Even linen napkins are scarce these days unless you’re at a high-end restaurant.
Napery is seen by some as old-fashioned and impractical. However, when you compare a table setting that adheres to the traditional standards of a well-executed dining experience, complete with finely pressed table linens, silverware, elegantly arranged stemware, and even a table runner, you can truly appreciate the fine art of dining.
Japanese designer Fumie Suzuki is inviting us all to revisit a fine festive dining experience this Christmas with her exquisite project Festive Table from Inspirations magazine issue #124.
Pristine white linen, the delicacy of needlelace and sparkling gold thread combine to create this superb runner and coordinating placemats.
Sprays of mistletoe and an assortment of festive baubles are worked using a combination of surface and Hedebo embroidery and the runner is adorned at each end with a generous tassel.
The finished table runner measures 160cm x 37cm wide (64" x 14 ½"), omitting the tassel with the finished placemats each measuring 30cm x 40cm wide (12" x 16").
As you can see by these photos, Fumie has excelled in her artistic endeavours by creating the most delicate and delightful design that has been meticulously embroidered.
At present we have a supply of premium quality linen as per Fumie’s original pieces for inclusion in our Ready-to-Stitch kits, that are being produced on a made-to-order basis.
